Things are moving right along around the homestead. There is a lot to do since we moved in on Saturday. Most of the time we have spent cleaning the place and trying to buy things to put in the house. We have had to purchase things like beds, chairs, a refrigerator, a stove, a washing machine and several other various and sundry things. Little by little we are getting more and more established. Some of you are eager to see more photos of the place so I wanted to oblige even though there are more things out of place than in place.
Upstairs there is the master bedroom and bathroom that the Allens are in and there is also two other bedrooms and a bathroom that Kyle and I have settled into. It is a great set up. Here is the second bedroom that we hope to make into an office/hangout place:
The view from that room is something I really enjoy. We can see into the compound of what I assume is a large Ugandan family, and we can see how they live. They wash children and dishes (not at the same time) in buckets of water in the yard, and walk to their outhouses to use the restroom. We are grateful to be exactly where the Lord wants us.
This is our bathroom. You may notice that the shower is right in the middle. This is how many bathrooms are in Uganda, you just put the shower in the same room as the toilet, who cares what else is in danger of getting wet.
So that we don’t have to remove the toilet paper every time we take showers we got a shower curtain for the toilet, it works great. Also you may be able to tell that there is no shower head on right now, Kyle is trying to figure out how we can get more pressure there so that the shower actually serves its purpose, to wash you off.
Another quirky thing that we are dealing with is a place to put the washing machine. This house and many other houses are built without washer hookups so our two best options for it was in the guest bathroom or in the kitchen. We decided to put it in the kitchen so that we can still get use of the guest bathroom shower (if anyone wants to visit, you have a shower to use).
Kyle and Trey have been working hard to set us up with a washing machine. They had to put water lines through the back of the cabinets so that the washer would go in the corner and we could still use the sink when the washer was going.
I promise more pictures or even a video but I really want to show you how things will look lived in. Tomorrow we should get a couch, we are still looking for a dining room table. We bought four plastic chairs and a plastic patio table so that we can sit somewhere and eat.

Do mine eyes deceive me, or is that some crown molding I spot in the bathroom?
ReplyDeleteKyle must be thrilled about that.
