Thanks mom for naming me Sarah

So as Kyle mentioned, we have met a lot of people in the last few months.  We have had to introduce ourselves to all of these new people. Today as we were yet again giving introductions I had the thought that I was glad to be named Sarah, so thanks mom! Lets just say that I am probably the only one whose name East Africans can pronounce out of the three other Mzungus (local word for white people) I am with.

In Uganda Kyle answers to Carl, Cal or some other variation. Erin's name is a real doozy and she usually gets called Irene, Ellen, Anne or Allen. Trey's introduction to people usually leads to confused faces so we usually hold out our hands as if we were carrying a tray and say "You know, like an actual tray." This helps immensely.

My name needs no repetition or clarification, its great! Mom I just had to give you a shout out for giving me a good cross cultural/missionary name. This information may be helpful to those who want to raise children to be missionaries...think, think, think about it!

  1. I understand completely, Sarah! Ugandans struggle with my roommates' names, but they totally get "Martha." The don't understand it well with my American accent, but when I say "Mah-tha" they understand immediately. :)
