Today we had to chance to get orientated to AIM's Central Region office that is conveniently located in Kampala, right next to the guest house we are staying in. After we got acclimated to most of the staff that works out of this office, we had a little bit of time before dinner to do some exploring. AIM has a car that you can rent by the kilometer (700 shillings/kilometer) which ends up being 49 cents per mile. On a side note the conversions of things here is really hard; 1 US dollar equals about 2,392 UG shillings. My head begins to hurt when I go to the store and try to figure our how much things cost.
So anyway we took the car out and only drove down the road less than a mile (about a kilometer and a half) to a store to take a look around. We were glad to see Oreos, Frosted Flakes, Heinz ketchup, Coke Zero, many types of spices, Lay's Stacks chips, and Hershey's chocolate sauce. However many of these items were double what we would spend for them in the states. We were surprised at what we found and it made us even more excited to soon be in our own homes.
Kyle decided to drive because he has the most experience driving with a manual transmission.
For the most part he did great. We just had to remind him twice to get on the left side of the road.
