Ice Cream

Many of you know that Kyle comes from a family that loves ice cream.  Almost every night growing up Kyle had ice cream after dinner.  Through college Kyle tried to consume ice cream as much as possible.  I did not fully become aware of Kyle's love need for ice cream until we were married.  As part of my responsibility to leave and cleave as a new bride, I just had to quickly submit to my husband's authority in the home and I partook of ice cream with him.  Marriage is full of tough sacrifices like this.

In moving to Uganda, we knew that the ice cream that would be available to us here was sub par (yes, in our two previous visits we scoped out the ice cream situation).  It just tastes weird and the texture is not the creamy goodness that we love so much.  Hearing the cry of our hearts, my mother bought us an ice cream maker this last December.  We brought this maker all the way to Uganda with us, in order to help us cope with the transition. This week I was able to make use of the beautiful machine.

I had to adapt this recipe of vanilla bean ice cream because of the lack of half and half available here.  I will be trying to tweak it and improve the flavor because the dairy products here are just a bit different than what we are used to.  We were all pleased with the final product. With all the food blogs I read I know I have a ways to go in displaying some of my creations here but I thought I would show you the final product.

This is one happy man

  1. Way to go Sarah (what a wife you are)! I am sometimes astounded at the sacrifices you make! Anyway glad you could have a taste of "home" however it looks, as it is all about the taste! (and it looks good to me!)
