King's Daughters

You may know that Erin and I lead a Bible study, called King’s Daughters, at UCF every Friday for women that attend university (Kyle and Trey lead the one for the guys, called Real Brothers, and in case you were wondering the names were here before we were). Because of how the university schedule works we have two sessions each Friday, one around midday and the other in the evening. We are studying the book of Ephesians this semester and really enjoying our time together studying the Bible and getting to know each other better.

This last Tuesday was a national holiday (Celebrating 50 years of independence for Uganda) and there we no classes, so we invited all of the ladies over to our place for about five hours. Forty ladies showed up for games, food, prizes, fun and laughter, nine of those ladies don’t normally come to church but were invited by a friend.

We started our time out by playing games, these young women love games, the louder the game the better! I cannot help but just stand back watching and laughing while we play games cause they get so into them.

We ate lunch that consisted of rice, beef stew, cooked cabbage and chapati.

Everyone had to look to find a place to sit and eat cause we do not have enough space for forty, but we managed to get everyone a seat somewhere.

After lunch we played another game, then we took turns decorating cookies in the dining room and painting nails in the living room.

At one point during this time we came together to sing the Ugandan National Anthem. (Bear with the shakiness, it was so spur of the moment I didn’t have time to get good video!)

Of course, we had prizes for the best decorated cookies and for the winners of the games. We finished our time together by one last game: “Big Booty”. We were making so much noise during our games that we had several neighbors of ours coming to get a better look at what was happening at our place (which is a good thing!).

We are so thankful for these ladies, they bring me much joy as I get to spend time with them each week. Many of them are striving to live in a way that is worthy of the Gospel. Others have recently come to a saving knowledge of Christ and trying to figure out what that means for their lives. Then there are some few ladies who come to Kings Daughters that do not know Jesus as their personal savior but are curious to what it means to be “Born Again.”

Please pray for these ladies, they are the future of Uganda and have great potential. Pray that they would grow in their knowledge of the will of Yahweh and that they would continually be transformed by the power of the Spirit. Pray that Erin and I would be sensitive to how the Lord wants to use us in their lives.
