A little facelift for our blog

As you may notice our blog got a bit of a facelift.  The only reason why the blog changed is because I didn't have to do much to change it.... Today, when Kyle and Trey were returning the rental car, Erin and I stayed back and worked on our blogs. It did not take long to add a few things here and tweak a bit there.  
I hope that your will now better enjoy your blog reading, I had you guys in mind the entire time ;)

We are still in Atlanta and tomorrow we spend the day at AIM's headquarters doing some final paper work so that we can successfully leave the country. Today we have just spent some time hanging out, taking the hotel's golf cart for a spin around the town and playing our favorite game called Gang of Four.

Let me also draw your attention to the right of the blog where there are a few new gadgets to take a look at.

We made it to Atlanta!

Before we fly to East Africa we will be spending a few days at AIM's (our sending organizations) headquarters. To get all of our bags there, we rented a 12 passenger van to fit our luggage, the Allens and their luggage. We left Mesa at 4am on Sunday, drove 16 hours to pick up the Allen's in Houston, then (Trey mostly) kept on driving through the night. 1792 miles and 27 hours later, we arrived in Atlanta. We rearranged luggage so that we could take turns sleeping.

Over all of these hours on the road we had much to think about. I thought about things I wish I had said to those that I love before we left, I thought about the conversation Kyle and I had four years ago when we first talked about Uganda. We thought about how many people love and support us and how we are going to miss them. I also thought about how inadequate I am to be doing what we are doing. There was much to think about and even times to feel overwhelmed.

Over these last several hours I thanked Yahweh for his provision, leading and care of us. We do not know what the future holds, which can be terrifying, but I do know that we are being cared for by the God of the universe. He has a plan for us, and we rest in that.

But I am not sure if I am ready to go. Sorry I have to make a John Denver reference. When I was a kid in the car if my mom wasn't playing Psalty the Singing Song Book she was playing the best of John Denver. What can I say, sunshine on my shoulders does make me happy. Ok sorry this was supposed to be a post about packing... We are just about done with the packing.



The total amount of stuff we are bringing breaks down like this: 5 bins, 4 suitcases, a guitar, some carry ons, and our undying love. I do not like to pack, it is zero fun. My mom and brother got into town on Wednesday and my mom has been a HUGE help in packing. That is when she is not hanging out with her little buddy Aaron (my nephew).



It still doesn't feel like we are really doing this. I thought with our bags packed I would feel the weight of actually leaving. Kyle is feeling the weight of all of our bags as he weighs all of the luggage. Maybe I won't feel the weight until we get in the van and start driving to pick up the Allens in Houston...

We can not believe it is January!

We are so close to our departure and it is hard to believe the day is coming. Kyle and I have been talking and praying about moving to Uganda for 4 years. Currently, we are deep in saying goodbye to several loved ones. Today we have a goodbye with the staff at our church. On Sunday we had our last College Group meeting with the students and friends that we love so so much. We really have been so blessed by our church; the Lord has used the people there to encourage , love, challenge and care for us. The last two Sundays we have had a time of commissioning for us; one at Red Mountain Community and the other was at Eagle Rock Baptist (in Southern CA). Those services were really sweet times and very moving.
The rest of the week we will be saying goodbye to family before we will leave AZ on Sunday.

A list for you

- I have not posted since before Thanksgiving and so I decided to just make a list of things to let you know what we have been up to. 

- I stopped working at Food for the Hungry right before Thanksgiving. That was harder than I thought it was going to be… I do miss it a little. 

- We had so much fun celebrating Thanksgiving as my mom, brother, and Grandma came to AZ to celebrate with much of Kyle’s side of the family. 

- For the last two weeks we have been in CA. We were not planning on being in CA for so long but because Kyle's grandma Fox passed away, we came to CA sooner than planned, in order to remember her and be with family. We are so grateful that we were able to praise Yahweh for the gift of Ella Fox and spend time with wonderful family.

- We have been staying at my mom's and have enjoyed times of relaxing, doing some projects and spending time with family and friends.

- I celebrated 25 years of life with my family; my sister and brother-in-law flew all the way from Maryland and it was so much fun being together with them.

- We are a little over a month away from our departure. My heart wants to worry and stress in thinking about all that has to be done before we go. Yahweh is good to remind me and he sometimes uses my husband to remind me that there is no need to worry, that we are being well taken care of.

- We are just about at 100% of our monthly support (there are a couple more pledge cards that we are told are coming in that will put us right at 100%), our outgoing/start-up support is doing great as well, and we now pray that the Lord will bring together the necessary thing in order to buy a car when we get to Kampala. God is so good and all of this support is because of him. We are so thankful to Him for building up such a wonderful support team that has committed to walk a long side of us, this journey seems so daunting without you!

- The couple that is going with us to Uganda is still needing monthly support. Check out their blog to learn more about them and how you may be able to be a part of their support team.

I am almost done working!

Sorry for my lack of posting! Between having our transmission go out in our car and trying to wrap things up at my job, these last few weeks have flown by. I never posted photos of Halloween like I said I was going to, so I stole this picture from my sister-in-law's facebook album.

I can not believe we are in the middle of November already. Two weeks ago we found out that the transmission in our car needed to be fully replaced. Thankfully for us, Kyle was able to find one online for the right price and it was installed this last weekend. It was not the way we wanted to spend our money but the Lord continues to teach us that he is the provider.

I am glad to say that my last day of work is this coming Tuesday. Now that I have transferred all of my responsibilities over, I have been able to just help out wherever the office needs most. I will really miss the friends I have at Food for the Hungry. I have been filling out an exit interview which has caused me to think a lot about all that the Lord has taught me in the last few years. Being at FH has had its highs and lows but in the end I am most thankful for the people I have met. Hopefully some of these friendships will be lifelong. I am so thankful that Yahweh made us relational beings because life would be a lot harder without some good friends. This is a great reminder for me because so often I want to focus on the tasks in front of me. Something tells me that I should remember this for some future endeavors...

I  can not believe it is November 1st!  Many people have been asking how we are feeling about our approaching departure.  Honestly, it still kinda feels far away... I know it will be here before we know it but there does seem like a lot will be happening before we go. 

I still have 3 more weeks of work which is probably the main reason why time is moving slowly for me. 

We so look forward to having more time to spend with friends and family!

Over the next 3 months we have at least 2 trips to CA planned and some family members will be visiting us here. That could be another reason why time is moving slowly,  I am so excited about those times.

This last Friday we went hiking with some friends.  It was a beautiful day to hike Camelback Mountain and we had some really good company.  I forgot my camera but took this photo with my phone from the top.  

I hope to put up some pictures from last night, we had a bunch of fun trick or treating with our niece and nephews...
