Women's Day

On Saturday it was international women's day and we were able to have a special event for all the women at UCF. While we were planning and praying about this day, the Lord put on our heart the amount of abuse that happens worldwide, but specifically in Uganda. As I have gotten to know more and more women in Uganda, I hear their stories and I hear how many have them have experienced some sort of abuse (the same can be said of women in the US).  Physical, sexual, emotional and spiritual abuses are nothing new to humanity, the Old Testament shows us they have been going on since right after The Fall. Sinful people distort the image of God and the way he created humanity; one example of this is seen in abuse.

Abuse can be a very hidden thing and we felt the Lord leading us to take steps in bringing this subject to light and to provide a safe place to talk about abuse. Our prayer is that the church would become a place where healing from a abuse takes place rather than a place that contributes negatively to abuse.

It was exciting to see how Yahweh moved as we opened ourselves up to seeking his heart on this subject. Our main speaker is a friend of ours and fellow missionary (who is also sent by RMCC), Anne Laine. Anne has been involved with Mending the Soul ministries and is passionate about bringing hope and healing to those who have been abused. She did a great job of sharing with us about the theology of abuse and how God sees abuse.

After Anne spoke we were divided up into small groups to talk deeper about the things that were taught.

I heard great things about how the women really enjoyed talking in these groups.

Throughout the day we heard testimonies from women who have experienced the freedom that Yahweh can bring from past sin that has been done to them and they have done. It was a powerful time.

We also were able to share in a wonderful meal together.

Our lunch of rice, beans, Posho, matooke, cabbage, chicken and pineapple.

In all there were 92 women that came the group was made up of teenagers, students at the University, women working in professional fields, and some married women also attended.

We are looking forward to how Yahweh will continue to bring healing to lives that have been effected by abuse. Please pray for these women and the women in your own communities that they would be able to see that Yahweh is a just God who does not want abuse to happen and that only He can bring true healing.

We thank the women at Eagle Rock Baptist Church who gave generously so that this event could take place. Many were blessed by your sacrificial giving!

  1. Awesome post Sarah....thanks for doing that. I got the pictures.... and posted it to my FB page. I hope the women continue to talk about it....and would LOVE to share with them more. One of the women from Women of Grace mentioned doing more with them possibly. Let me know if they actually want to do that, and I will work it. Thanks again for inviting me. I LOVED it.
